All at Team AGB Transport/Packet Media came away from Donington smiling after Robbie put in a great performance in yesterdays Supersport Cup race.
The team had many problems with their bike throughout the weekend, which unfortunately worsened overnight onto race day. Robbie head out for warm-up and things seemed to be working normal and the bike was sounding excellent, however, in the closing stages, the bike made a huge noise and immediately stopped. Robbie managed to roll the bike to the pits, but from that moment, the weekend was over.
While stripping the engine, Steve Rogers from Raceways Yamaha came over and offered us one of his spare Superstock machines to ride in the race, so that Robbie was able to at least compete in the race. The team decided to ride the Raceways Yamaha, and with very little time, put in a setup which they thought would work for Robbie.
Out for the race they went, Robbie got a brilliant start and passed many riders; however, the Supersport bikes soon got into their stride and began to pass Robbie on the straights. It was visible that Robbie was over riding the bike as he began to make mistakes. He rode a tough race, battling right through to the flag, where he eventually took 3rd in the cup, and 19th in the main race.
"After the weekend we have had, it’s absolutely fantastic to see the chequered flag for once this weekend! The Superstock bike was really nice to ride, but obviously the difference was noticeable, there was much less power, and also no quick shifter, which was strange at first! We had no time to set the bike up properly, but the gearing was good. The suspension needed much more work, I was struggling to hold my line and keep the bike upright, and I had a few hairy moments to say the least!
It’s great to get the result I did. Obviously after the warm-up, I thought the weekend was over, but all credit to Steve and everyone at Raceways for their help, absolutely great bunch of guys! I also need to thank my whole team, who were up until the early hours, most nights, trying to fix the bike and make it run how it should. The only problem now is that we have no engine to use for Thruxton - hopefully we can have a 2 day turnaround." Explained Robbie
So now it’s a 2 day break before setting off for Thruxton BSB - Hopefully the team can arrange an engine in time. Keep an eye on the website for the latest updates.
